We recognize and amplify each person's passion for giving back and making a meaningful difference in communities where we live and work. Our Ciena Cares program was born from the grassroots efforts of our people who wanted to do good in the world. Today, it's ingrained in our culture through volunteering time off, cash rewards for volunteering, and matched giving.
Through our Digital Inclusion program, we unlock opportunities for more than 100,000 students worldwide with digital access, tools, and learning.
Our Ciena Cares program was created from our employee’s commitment to volunteering and it continues to inspire people to live by our “go do good” philosophy. The program offers paid time off for volunteering, cash rewards for every hour spent volunteering and matched giving up to $5,000 per person.
Our team members exemplify our "go do good" philosophy through their volunteer efforts shared on our CienaLife page.
As we pursue the advancement of network connectivity and intelligent automation, we want to ensure that no communities or individuals are left behind. That's why we made a $10 million USD commitment over a five-year period to unlock opportunities for 100,000 underserved students worldwide. This commitment enables greater connectivity through digital access, tools, and learning.
One of our signature Digital Inclusion program initiatives, the Ciena Solutions Challenge, engages middle and high school students to use critical thinking skills to identify solutions for global challenges in their communities that are aligned with the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The initiative engages students in computational thinking, robotics, and technology — providing equipment to schools in underserved communities with the creation of a learning hub and resource center for teachers.
We work with our Digital Inclusion grant recipients to engage students in digital learning through funded programming, as well as getting our people involved through volunteerism and mentorship.
