Ciena’s innovative portfolio drives leadership position: Omdia Scorecard

For the third year in a row, Ciena retained its Leader position in the 2020 edition of the Omdia Optical Network Hardware Vendor Scorecard, with the highest score overall. The report is based on objective data and metrics and evaluates the 10 top players in the overall optical network equipment market. Ciena ranked #1 in Market Momentum and #2 in Market Presence.

  

Broad, innovative portfolio drove success

According to Omdia, Ciena’s driving power came from its continuous investment in core technologies, including its WaveLogic DSPs, orchestration and automation software, along with ongoing product enhancements and additions. To highlight the continued innovation in Ciena’s portfolio, the report authors called out the 6500 packet-optical portfolio, Ciena’s popular Waveserver family of data center-optimized disaggregated transponders and Adaptive IP^TM solution, which includes new IP and Segment Routing capabilities.

The report also highlighted Ciena’s commitment to its packet-optical networking strength in a market dominated by vendors with extensive multi-domain network solution portfolios. The analysts called out Ciena’s above-average market share gains in 2019, with total North America market share reaching over 50% , as a direct result of a portfolio sales mix weighted towards growth in packet, DCI and 400G-capable port shipments.

The report also noted that customers continue to perceive Ciena as a top company, due to Ciena’s ongoing dedication and investment in technological innovation, product reliability and service.
